The most important buildings of modernism in Slovakia, the list of which is not definitive.
The new 704-page book captures the development of Slovak architecture of the 20th century on the example of 101 buildings.
From the Mound at Bradla to the Slovak Radio to the architects’ houses designed to the last detail.
The selection of 101 works in various locations from Bratislava to Trebišov was commissioned by DOCOMOMO, an international institution dedicated to the preservation of monuments of modern architecture. The texts by the collective of the Department of Architecture of the Historical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences are accompanied by photographs by Matej Hakár.

The great book of power plant architecture in Slovakia – from historic hydroelectric and thermal power plants to atomic machines. In Slovakia, there are still plants preserved today that function as living museums. They have remained unchanged since the time of the Titanic and continue to supply electricity to the grid as long as there are people to replace the parts. Industrial architecture historians Eva Belláková and Veronika Chládeková, together with photographer Matej Hakár, visited 21 selected facilities from Bratislava through Mochovce, Upper Nitra, Kremnica, Kežmarok, and Vojany. These facilities reflect the development of 20th-century architecture. However, environmental impact has become the new priority.
